What is team building?
It is a purpose-driven
process, developed according
to a systematic plan, to
create, maintain, and enrich
the development of a group
of people into a cohesive
unit.
If
we find ways of enjoying
our work – blurring the
lines between work and
play – the gains will be
greater.” – Ellen
Langer, Professor of
Psychology, Harvard
University
Yet
another gratification
from playing games
during teambuilding is
the bonds that will be
established within
teams. when team members
strive together to
achieve something, the
spirit of comradeship is
inculcated, and it
lingers even after the
event..
Through
having fun together,
team members also gain
more in-depth
understanding of each
other in a
non-threatening
environment. this would
eventually help in
managing differences in
personality styles, and
adds to the greater
cohesiveness within an
organization.
What more can we say? in
a nutshell, experiential
learning through
teambuilding games would
prove to be more
productive, effective,
memorable and thus, more
worthwhile!
Build your own Team
Building Norms
All of
your teams, whether you know
or not, have norm, rules, or
guidelines that guide the
behavior of team members. In
most cases they are not
written down; they are
simply understood because
that’s the way the team
always operated.
We ask each person to
describe their best
experience as a team member
(formal, informal, work
related, or off-the job
team). We want them to
describe what happened and
what made it special.
Norms can be positive and
thus help the team be an
effective organization. For
example, all team members
show up on time for team
meeting. Norms can also can
be counterproductive as when
excessive joking and side
conversations prevent a
meeting from being
productive.
Tell us, what do you want?
And what do you not want. We
help you to develop several
norms for how you want your
team to work together.

Good Communication Skills
Objective
You should have an end result
or objective clearly in mind
before communicating. Examine
your purpose. What specific do
you want to receiver to
understand or to do, as a result
of the communication?
Method
What’s the best method for
achieving your objective?
Obviously, some communication
methods or channels are better
than others for a given
objective. Weigh the
alternatives – written or oral,
group or individual, formal or
informal – before selecting a
specific method such as a
letter, memo, meeting, telephone
call, email etc.
Structure
How you organize and
construct your communication is
very important to its success.
There are many considerations:
How much or how little to cover?
What is the best way to organize
the message? How can you keep it
simple and concise, yet
complete? How can you gear to
your audience’s needs?
Feedback
In order to ensure that your
message has been understood and
to evaluate the emotions of your
receiver (how does he/she feel
about it?), you should encourage
frequent responses.

Notes on Team Building and Leadership Training
(James Neill, 2005, Wilderdom) A team is a group of people who come together temporarily to achieve a purpose. There is no magic formula for "building a team". Teams are organic - they grow and change - so make use of the opportunities that change offers.
Team Building (or ‘teambuilding') refers to the process of establishing and developing a greater sense of collaboration and trust between team members.
Team Building Activities are stimulating problem-solving tasks designed to help group members develop their communication skills and capacity to work effectively together.
Team Building Exercises can be adapted for virtually any setting, young or old, large or small, and across cultures. Different team building activities facilitated in different ways with different groups can and will lead to a wide variety of different experiences and different outcomes. Even the simplest game can become a significant experience for participants; an important part of team building exercises is participants' reflection and discussion about the activity, how they approached the situation, and possible points of learning.
Outdoor expeditions are a fantastic way to give depth and understanding to the school-based learning experience. Seeing is understanding! Participants find themselves in new environments, out of their comfort zone, opening their minds to new ways of looking at life, leading to important advances in physical, personal and social education.
We does this in a fun and exciting way, using a method that combines learning and experience, otherwise known as experiential learning. Team-building, respect, integrity and self-development are all at the core of our training.
The trips are designed so that enjoyment is maximised. Accommodation is always good, food always plentiful and there is always a member of staff on hand to listen and help out if needed. Without ever realising it, participants are being educated and asked to analyse their responses and behaviours. Participants are included in their own analysis and it is this inclusive and honest approach that brings out the best in participants, maximising potential and bringing out mature responses to challenging situations.
Motivational team-building events and games, learning about new cultures, facing exciting physical and mental challenges, honesty and integrity, forging new friendships and discovering a world of opportunities. |
